| The Castle of Gargonza, member of the "Abitare la Storia Association ", is located between Siena and Arezzo. It is a perfectly preserved 13th century walled village that dominates the Chiana Valley and its own wooded estate. When the surrounding land became impractical for farming, this monumental village was converted into 25 beautifully restored houses. |

Gargonza, 11 km from the Monte San Savino exit of the A1 Rome-Milan motorway, is easily reached by car. Gargonza lies 35 km from Siena. Take the Superstrada for Perugia, then the Arezzo junction; from there, in the direction of Monte S. Savino / Palazzuolo. From Arezzo, take the motorway in the direction of Siena and exit at Monte S. Savino. The nearest airports are Rome, Pisa and Florence: the Rome airport is 180 km away, the Pisa airport is 150 km away and the Florence airport is 95 km away. Arezzo and Siena are the nearest railway stations. Arezzo is on the Rome-Milan line. |

| The restaurant "La Torre di Gargonza" (tel: ++39 (0) 575 847065) is surrounded by beautiful countryside and is located just outside the Castle walls. It lies opposite the swimming-pool area. Inside, there is room for 100 people. Outside, on the veranda, 150 people can comfortably enjoy their meal. The Restaurant is fully equipped to host banquets, weddings, and business lunches. It offers a typical Tuscan cuisine. Among the many specialities we can recommend: pappardelle pasta in hare sauce, pici pasta in asparagus tip, pennette pasta in pientino cheese and black pepper seasoning, tagliatelle pasta in wild-boar meat sauce, chianina beef-steak in rosemary sauce, florentine beef-steak, pork medallions in black olive sauce, wild boar meat stew with toasted polenta. | ||

| Public reception rooms, gardens and open areas with magnificent views are available to guests. Gargonza is especially recommended for groups of people interested in spending a holiday in pursuit of their own artistic activities, such as water-color landscape painting in a unique setting, singing or playing musical instruments. | ||

| Some of the 25 houses are let individually. Other accomodations are divided into flats each with own living room and fireplace, kitchen and telephone. All units are completely furnished and are supplied with linen and kitchen utensils. | ||

| An 18x7.5 meter swimming pool is available for our guests, just beside the ancient walls, in a wonderful panoramic position and surrounded by cypresses and olive trees. | |

| Gargonza is part of the "Abitare la Storia Association", which unites guest accommodations located inside historical buildings and those with artistic / architectural value over the entire Italian territory. The Association aims to facilitate, for a public of experts and enthusiasts, the possibility of experiencing the unique opportunity of living history in those buildings where, over the centuries, our ancestors have left the imprint of their taste for living and of their desire of beauty. In the cultural sector, especially in the historical part, Gargonza has for years been hosting the group of the Laboratory of Contemporary History, which publishes its works in the Quaderni di Gargonza for the Longanesi publishing house in Milan. In the musical sector, groups of talented persons who play classical music as amateurs may contact the Amici del Castello di Gargonza Association, to organise stays at the Castle. The Association maintains relations with analogous associations such as A.M.C.P. (Amateur Chamber Music Players) of New York. |
